Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

From Battery Producer to Luxury Electric Car Innovator

A leading producer of batteries decided to make a move by developing their own line of luxury electric vehicles. While they were experts in battery technology, they faced significant challenges in electronics, programmable systems, and struggled with supplier management and quality control. Furthermore, most of their employees were either mechanical engineers or new hires from non-embedded backgrounds, such as computer games developers, who lacked experience in automotive embedded systems. Additionally, their vision for highly automated driving (ADAS) left them uncertain about which technologies to adopt.

To address these gaps, we conducted a Gap and Quick-Wins analysis. We began by introducing a requirements management system, creating a structured and traceable approach for managing complex vehicle specifications. This system also facilitated clear communication with suppliers, allowing the company to improve supplier relationships and ensure quality standards were met.

Next, we implemented ISO 26262-compliant safety processes and established Development Interface Agreements (DIAs) with key suppliers to ensure safety and quality were integrated step-by-step. Finally, we guided them through selecting and integrating the right ADAS technologies for their luxury EVs, while also providing tailored training to bridge the gap for employees from non-embedded and mechanical backgrounds.

As a result, the company successfully transformed from a battery producer into a luxury electric vehicle manufacturer, equipped with the tools, processes, and expertise needed to bring innovative, high-quality EVs to market.

Infotainment System Meets High Quality and Safety Standards

Initial Situation:

A well-established company with over thirty years in the market had primarily served a single local OEM, producing simple infotainment systems. While their products were reliable, they had never needed to comply with formal quality or safety standards.

As the industry evolved and standards like ISO 26262 (functional safety) and ASPICE (Automotive SPICE) became essential, the company recognized that to remain competitive and retain both existing and potential clients, they needed to align with modern safety and quality requirements. They approached us to help implement these compliant processes and ensure they stayed relevant in a rapidly changing market.

Our Approach: Leveraging Existing Strengths

Upon conducting a Gap and Quick-Wins analysis, we identified that the company already had robust systems in project management, supplier management, production, and HR. These processes were limited to the production phase, but we saw the potential to extend and apply these strengths to the entire engineering lifecycle. Rather than reinventing the wheel, we focused on reusing many of their existing processes and adapting them to meet ISO 26262 and ASPICE standards.

By expanding their proven techniques, we helped them integrate requirements management, change management, and impact analysis into their development process, ensuring that safety and quality were built into both the engineering and production phases. This approach allowed them to streamline supplier interactions and improve process efficiency without starting from scratch.

Results: A Seamless Transition to Compliance

The company's transformation allowed them to extend their established processes beyond production, ensuring safety and quality compliance from design through to manufacturing. The outcomes included:

  • A complete requirements management system that aligned with modern safety standards, providing clear traceability and improving product development.

  • Integration of supplier management techniques across both engineering and production, ensuring all components met safety and quality standards.

  • Creation of a continuous improvement culture, leveraging their strengths in HR and project management, that helped both engineering and production teams work more collaboratively.

With their newly compliant and state-of-the-art processes, the company is now well-positioned to meet the demands of current and future clients, ensuring long-term success in the competitive infotainment system market.
